Chief Executive Officer and Co-Owner
Orville is a lifelong entrepreneur. He was only 10 years old when he convinced his father to let him bring home a small flock of sheep he had purchased from a neighbor to start his own “business.” After graduating with honors from the University of Washington in 1992, he found himself once again turning to entrepreneurship to support his growing family.
In 2004, Orville and his wife Heidi purchased Scentsy and launched it as a direct selling company. Built on the core values of Simplicity, Authenticity and Generosity, they guided Scentsy from its humble beginnings to become a global leader in home fragrance and direct selling. In 2009, Scentsy received the Direct Selling Association’s first Rising Star Award, and topped Inc. 500’s list as the fastest-growing consumer products company in America in 2010. Today, Scentsy is a multi-brand company with products sold by more than 100,000 dedicated Consultants in 11 countries.
Orville lives his motto to "contribute more than you take" by volunteering on various non-profit boards, most notably the Direct Selling Association Board of Directors Executive Committee, where he has served since 2012. He was Chairman of the DSA from 2013 to 2014.
“Scentsy is all about the tens of thousands of great people who represent the company day in and day out. Scentsy is not about the Thompsons. We are just stewards of a good idea.”
President and Co-Owner
From the time she warmed the first Scentsy Bar, Banana Nut Bread, in 2004, Heidi has been passionate about fragrance. As the scent of ripe bananas, nuts and spices filled the air, she was surprised by the emotions and memories it brought forth — and inspired to see where they might lead.
Heidi graduated with a degree in business management from BYU-Idaho and managed a law firm before becoming a stay-at-home mom, a job she devoted herself to for 10 years as her family grew.
After her memorable first Scentsy fragrance experience in 2004, Heidi and her husband Orville purchased the small company and launched it as a direct selling company. In 2011, Heidi was named the Idaho Business Review Woman of the Year for outstanding leadership, mentoring efforts and community involvement.
Today, Scentsy is a multi-brand company with products sold by more than 100,000 dedicated Consultants in 11 countries. As she helps guide Scentsy and its Consultants forward, Heidi remembers one of her favorite quotes:
“Don’t expect to be comfortable when you are growing, or to grow when you are comfortable.”
Heidi strives to stay “uncomfortable” as she shares her deep love of family and fragrance with the world, working hard to connect Scentsy Consultants and customers with new fragrances that Warm the Heart, Enliven the Senses and Inspire the Soul.

Chief of Staff
Sam joined Scentsy in 2010, when he took on the planning and development of Scentsy Commons, a 73-acre campus consisting of seven buildings — including the tallest building in Meridian, Idaho, the Scentsy Commons Tower — three miles of walking paths, an onsite restaurant, an outdoor amphitheater and lush landscaping.
It took 4 years to complete the award-winning campus. When the final group of employees settled into their new home, Sam realized he had worked himself right out of a job! Luckily, the relationship he had built with Heidi and Orville Thompson created a new opportunity for Sam to contribute to the Scentsy Mission. As Scentsy’s Chief of Staff, Sam manages the Thompsons’ projects, assets and needs.
Before joining the Scentsy team, Sam worked as an entrepreneur and as a project manager for a family-owned residential development company where for 12 years he aided in all aspects of real estate development, including land acquisitions, land planning and design, entitlements and construction.
Sam studied business management at Utah Valley State College and Boise State University. When they’re not busy cheering their four kids on in sports or dance, he and his wife of 18 years love to go out to dinner and a movie. As a family they can often be found adventuring in the mountains and travelling to new places.

She and her husband Daane have two daughters and two beautiful, spirited granddaughters. When not with "the girls," she spends time traveling, reading and getting outdoors.
As Co-General Counsel, Ryan handles Scentsy’s litigation and advises on day-to-day legal concerns. He began working for Scentsy in 2012 as an in-house counsel before joining the senior executive team in 2014.
For six years, Ryan worked as an associate at Idaho’s oldest and largest law firm, where he practiced in a wide variety of areas including commercial litigation and estate planning. He has successfully represented clients in trial courts throughout Idaho.
A 2002 magna cum laude graduate of Brigham Young University and a 2005 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Ryan served as an Executive Editor of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law, was active in the Law School’s Public Interest/Community Service Organization (PISCO) and served as chair of the student chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
In addition to a regular practice of pro bono work in his community, Ryan volunteers with his church, the many different sports leagues his children participate in and with the Salvation Army, where he has served on the Advisory Board since 2010.
In his spare time, Ryan can usually be found at his cabin, hiking or sitting on the porch practicing his banjo.
As Co-General Counsel, Eric manages the day-to-day operations of Scentsy’s legal department with a focus on maintaining compliance with laws and regulations. As the company grows geographically, he especially enjoys the challenge of Scentsy’s international scope of work.
He joined the team in 2009, when Scentsy only operated in the U.S., and he said the company’s constant evolution and entrepreneurial spirit allow his team to come up with creative legal solutions for many different types of work, from complex commercial transactions, to novel intellectual property issues, to food safety.
Eric graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in 2005 before moving across the country to attend Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Environmental Law Society, worked on the Harvard Environmental Law Journal and founded the Harvard Law Ski Club (yes, it’s a real thing!). He graduated in 2009 and moved back home to Idaho.
When he isn’t on the Scentsy Campus, Eric can usually be found outdoors — he takes any chance he can to go skiing or mountain biking. His wonderful wife and three energetic kids are usually willing to go along.
